Come here, my feathered friend, and eat
Some nuts and seeds - a little treat
From the hand of one who admires you.
Your bright black eyes and feathers blue
Demonstrate our Designer's loving care.
I see now in your cautious stare
You distrust what my intent may be
In offering food so generously.
What assurance can I hold out here
To show how groundless is your fear?
My hand grasps no net or rope.
Indeed, it is my solemn hope
You'll always have liberty to fly,
To soar on wing across the sky.
But though my wishes are none but kind,
I must admit that in my mind
There lurks a bit of jealousy,
For you are what I cannot be -
Wild and free!

A creature to keep in captivity
So, you wish to abduct me,
And hold me hostage indefinitely
Encounter
Light and dark at play
across the dappled water
I hear the frost break
underfoot, like glass
Horned and hooved,
