Poetry: Expressions of love

by Carol Gioia

Created on: April 14, 2009   Last Updated: August 27, 2010

When christening our progeny,
much thought goes into it.
We research books of names
seeking one that truly fits.

Uniqueness is desirable,
but not too strange or odd.
Must complement the surname,
spelling can't be too hard.

A bundle of joy deserves to be
named with great precision.
Settling on a worthy tag,
is a significant decision.

When Grandpa is introduced,
he falls in love and then,
names chosen so carefully
are seldom heard again.

Pumpkin, Angel, Buttercup,
Sweet Pea, Princess, Cutie pie,
terms of endearment Grandpa assigns
to the little apple of his eye.
