There are things that can be affected by age, and the older we get, the harder it may be to accomplish certain activities. Writing, however, has somewhat the opposite effect - the older we get, the more experience we have in life and everything that comes along with it, and hence, the more we have to say, and the more we have to write.
Some argue that adults do not have the same imagination and creativity as children, and often we see things too seriously to be able to write about the childish fantasies that we once had. The truth is, the creativity we have as children can be developed and practiced on. Yes, we may lose some sense of adventure, and too much real life can limit our imagination, but fantasies form only one tenth of writers, and the rest, comes with style, technique, depth and knowledge, all of which improve as we age.
One is never too old to write. Don't forget that Mozart was writing his last symphony on his death bed. Writing is like music, it is a form of art that is timeless and can continue regardless of year and time. The more we do it, the better we become better at it. Stories often come from pieces of real life, and our lives, as we grow older, are enriched by the people we meet and the events that occur which makes it all the more interesting. Inspirations don't just come from one brilliant idea. It is a string of many ideas and thoughts that form into one beautifully written article or novel, and is not a matter of simply being about to create something new, but the ability of reinventing something old as well.
When we are young and adventurous, we write about fictional worlds and characters that depend heavily on imagination. We write of posssibilities in the hope that one day, the world we have created may even come true.
The older we get, the better we are at understanding how this life works, and how best to interpret it. Some of us continue to write the fantasies only with a lot more real life elements to them, or some of us turn into a different type of story teller, and write about historical events, about people we knew and about places we've been. This different genre of writing requires a maturity only life can teach us, and without getting older, without having the time to see the world a little differently, one may never be able to write about it heartfully.
Hence, we are never too old to write. Write, so that your story can be told.
