The current economical climate has had an impact on just about everybody worldwide. More and more people are rethinking their spending and saving trends and looking to stay indoors of an evening rather than spending unnecessary money on outside entertainment. In light of this, television has become if it were ever possible an even bigger source of entertainment for many.
The Apprentice is among one of the top ranking reality TV shows available on our screens and, if anything, is even more appropriate in the current climes than ever before. Gone are the days when contestants could strut into town, all suited and booted, and sell the proverbial ice to the Eskimos. Money is no longer easy to come by and therefore the new batch of contestants needs to be razor sharp.
Previously, we have seen many contestants fly under the radar and avoid being fired in the boardroom even though they have taken little responsibility for the task and maybe made some frivolous errors. Many people seemed to simply blag their way through a large portion of the series, while others were fired after making some tough calls and performing as best they could with the team they had.
Not any more. Real business is tough nowadays, much tougher than ever before, and the teams need to reflect this if they want to survive. Everybody is competing for business and firms are closing on an almost daily basis, large and small. Everybody competing to be the new apprentice needs to show their worth and fight as hard as the rest of the market. Whether facing Donald Trump or Alan Sugar in the boardroom, whether competing in the US or Great Britain, neither of the two bosses will suffer a loss gladly.
This show is more relevant and more appropriate than ever before. Each of us is having to adapt within our roles at work in order to see ourselves and our companies through these difficult times, and The Apprentice is no different. "Cheeky Chappies" with all the banter might be entertaining, but it will take more than personality to make people part with their money these days.
Real technique, drive and panache are required in greater measure than ever before and fans of the show cannot wait to see how this is reflected in the current series of the show. Most people are not fortunate enough to compete for such a prestigious and let's face it secure job role as what is offered to the winner of The Apprentice and viewers want to see them fight hard for it and really earn their place. After all, we all have to.
