Somewhere out west
Where summer suns warm
Sage and paintbrush into bloom,
Where winter winds congeal
The blood of wolf and elk,
Dwells the remnant of a people
Whose life flows through my veins.
I know them not
And yet they call to me.
Or is it a longing for their ancient ways,
So in harmony with my Maker's world,
That sings within my being?
Perhaps someday
I will journey forth
To find myself
In a place unknown to me
Out west.
