Born into this world, as innocent as can be
my unsuspecting parents, became a family
There are no rules, when it comes to raising love
except it always helps, to put one's trust in god, above
Young parents struggle, changes often result, in pain
where there is poverty, romance will wash away, in rain
Sometimes, new parents, reenact what they have seen
until both parties, find comfort, in the way it's always been
Coldness and darkness, were my two middle names
discomfort, became normality, depression doused my flames
With adolescent pressures, I lacked guidance from my peers
a child raised by post war parents, absorbed many fears
Bombs raged through the darkness, the blitz, it never ended
meanwhile, I tried to identify with others, but I never blended
I went through school a dreamer, the war continued in my head
with my parents always battling, I wondered, what I had said
I never knew my father, my mother shielded me from his woes
she blamed him for everything, from her head down to his toes
Eventually, the over protectiveness, that smothered over me
led to my premature independence and my need, to be free
I flew that nest in my innocence, when I was old enough to drink
I was too young to know different, but old enough to think
I met many different people, and I listened, to all their glories
when we got drunk, we recreated a menagerie, of childhood stories
Looking back now, there are two great people, that I miss
both have long passed on, from this life, to an after bliss
I will always love them dearly and I forgive the way they were
because I can see quite clearly, that life's lessons, reoccur

Haunted by my painful past
I struggle to cope and endure

Though my heart remains pure
We all
The past, it is behind me,

The pain, the angst,
The horror,
Behind me,that is the best.
Though
When praying to my God for his attention,
And asking why these things should hurt so much,
My past was catching up and needed
Tired and hurt by their deceiving
I had given up believing
in a Mister Right for me
I faced a lonely destiny
But then you
