I can't stand watching people daily engulf themselves on things they don't need.
In Kampala, Uganda: "Kampala Some 1.5 million people are in need of food aid in parts of the country hit by last year's floods and now experiencing drought since January." -allAfrica.com
Why is it that I can sit at work everyday giving Americans 20 ounce cups of coffee or espresso drinks that add up to 5 dollars, while there are children who starve in other countries and have never known any different? I don't understand the justice in that.
Don't get me wrong I appreciative to have a job and to be blessed with all that I have been. But I did nothing to deserve it. I simply was born
into a middle class American lifestyle of self-satisfaction and getting whatever we want. For a country that makes up such a little percentage of the earth we consume more goods than any other nation or group of people in the entire world. Even more than multiple third world countries combined. Can we really be so selfish having such an excess of food and goods and yet not giving back enough to sustain nations that survive off much less than us to begin with?
I wish I knew what it was like to be hungry. To not take for granted the food that I eat multiple times daily. I wish I had the means and funds to feed as many as I could. To reach out and show grace and love. I want to give back. I want to feed those in need and in return feed myself. Not physically but feed my soul. Know that my purpose was far beyond myself. All in humility and love.
I can't help but think other people feel the same way. Which brings to me to question all of the inaction not only in others but in myself to help out. I think it all starts with us, the ones who have money to cut down on our self indulgences and give back. But be weary of what companies you give back to make sure they are legitimately distributing and using your money to honestly and earnestly help needy people not only throughout the world but also in our own country. Yes even in the richest nation in the country with the most goods. In the good ol' U.S. of A we have people on our streets with no homes, starving on our city streets. There has to be another way. There has to be something we can do to help.
Here are a few organizations: The American Red Cross, Food For the Hungry, and Save The Children Federation.
Together with the help of these organizations we can at least take one step closer to ending world hunger.
