Salvation is God's method of delivering us from sin and preserving us from harm. When God first created man, Adam and Eve, He did not give him the knowledge of good and evil. This pureness of heart gave mankind the privilege and ability to openly communicate with God.
But it did not last. Adam and Eve obtained the knowledge of good and evil. When God discovered this, and questioned them, they lied and made excuses. The newfound conscious made them aware of what they had done, and they were afraid of God.
Man was separated from God, but still protected by Him. God was aware of the new nature of His creation, and set into motion the steps to restore mankind to Him. God understood that this nature was given to selfishness, pride and power. Even with the Laws given to Moses, mankind was unable to function. So God Himself provided the final sacrifice that would restore the creation to the Creator.
The word says, "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." For there is no difference between Jew and Gentilethe same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."" (Romans 10:9-13)
The confession, which is simple, does involve a sometimes-difficult decision. The decision is to admit that in your own power you are nothing. It means to bow your will to God, and accept that His ways are now your ways. To accept Jesus as Lord, and accept the salvation won on the cross, is a humbling personal event. Yet it is nothing when you realize that God "so loved the world that He sent His only Son, so that those who believed in Him would not perish, but have ever lasting life".
This is all that is needed experience salvation. As you live your life with this changed attitude, you will experience change. You will begin to see mankind and the events of the world as God sees them. You will want to read the Bible, and as you do, you will learn of the kindness of God. The longer you walk with God, the more you will understand about His love, and His great grace. This grace will strengthen you, and help you to show mercy and grace to others.
