Poetry: My kids

My Son The Piper

Look at that bonnie wee lad in the picture

He is only 10-years-old

No, that is not a skirt he is wearing

It's a kilt worn by brawny Scotsman

See that strange thing he is holding

It looks like it came out of Loch Ness

That is not Nessie though, just his bagpipes

Three drones, a chanter and a lot of hot air

The kilt, tam-o-shanter and bag cover

Are of the Royal Stewart tartan

Doesn't he look look good in plaid

You should see what he is not wearing

Though he is not yet old enough

To play at weddings or funerals

He gets lots of practice

Marching in parades and at Scottish Games

At times the lilting sound of Amazing Grace

Can be heard wailing throughout my neighborhood

Trying to compete with rap music and live Mariachi bands

Things can get so loud

I love it when he plays Taps at scout camp

In the dark, and previously silent woods

The pipes are haunting and beautiful

Played by my son, the piper
