Poetry: Easter

by John Peters

LAMB OF GOD

The Lamb of God who was slaughtered, He bared the stripes for all.

The soldiers place thrones upon His head , a scepter ,a purple robe instead.

Forced to carry a cross , to weak to carry such a burden stumbling to His feet .

The agony as they drove the nails deep within His soul. pain to every blow ,

The soldiers raised the cross, crowds of people stood below.

Darkness fell about ; the earth shook as He cried out.

God, the Father heard His cry , the soldiers weren't sure if He had died.

A spear was driven to His side. Blood and water flowed from His side , the soldiers knew He had died.

His body was torn and bent , battered and bruised beyond context.

The Lamb of God was laid to rest. Three days later it is was said ;

The Lamb of God appeared to many, The lamb is with the God Almighty.
The Lamb sitteth on the right hand of God , The lamb is the Trinity.
