Tips for finding cheap prom dresses

How to Save Money When Buying Your Prom Dress.

As you have probably already realized, one of the biggest expenses on Prom night is going to be for your dress or gown. You do not need to break the bank however to find something that will make you look stunning on your special night.

Here are some different ideas to find the perfect dress that will not cost you a fortune.

Shop Online

Thanks to the internet you can find unbelievable bargains online. Start searching a few months prior to the big day. If you are not sure how the dress will fit you, get it in a little bigger size than usual and bring it to a local tailor to have them take it in. This way you have the dress you want, for the price you want and yet it looks like it was custom made for you.

Search For Sales in Stores

Again shopping early is a great way to find some awesome bargains on formal dresses and gowns. You should even consider shopping as early as January when Christmas and New Year's gowns are on clearance.

Borrow One

No one needs to know where your gorgeous dress came from as long as you don't borrow it from anyone who is attending the prom with you (unless it is a great friend who will die before telling your secret). Look to cousins or friends who recently attended proms themselves with gowns that will still be in style.

Thrift Stores and Consignment Shops

Again, no one has to know where you got it. You can get some amazing dresses that are in "like-new" condition. Consignment shops specifically are known for having a lot of designer dresses at awesomely discounted prices. If anyone asks, tell them you picked it up in a little boutique you stumbled into. If they ask where it is located, tell them you are not sure because you accidentally found it when you got lost one day, but you really wish you could find it because they had such great stuff!

Have Someone You Know Make It For You.

If you know anyone who is good at sewing, there are some amazing prom dress patterns and beautiful materials available at your local craft store that will cost you just a fraction of what a ready-made dress will cost in a fancy store. This way not only do you get to pick the perfect dress, but you can also get it in your favorite color and material and it will fit you like a glove.

Search Ebay

You can find a ton of dresses in different styles, colors and sizes on Ebay. Many have only been wore once and for the mere cost of dry cleaning and alterations you can have a dress that looks like it was custom made for you. As always be sure to check the sellers reputation to be sure they are reliable before sending anyone money.
