Reinventing your look is fun and easy to do. You don't need a lot of money either. Luckily, with the availability of the Internet even people in remote areas can benefit from this and never need to look dated again.
If you have never done this before and feel somewhat uncomfortable, start out with small changes. It helps to have the assistance of a good friend who is stylish and gets a lot of compliments from others. That way you know you will be getting advice from someone who knows what she is doing.
A small, easy change would be to change your makeup. Women tend to get especially comfortable with a certain technique or color palette when it comes to using makeup. A makeup change is achieved in two different ways: by either changing the colors (or shades), or by changing the application technique, especially in regards to eye makeup.
How do you know you don't inadvertently look like you are back in the 70s? If you are daring, you can go to a trendy department store's makeup counter and have them do your make up for free. They will happily explain the process of how they are applying the makeup. Keep in mind though they will want to sell you their products, but of course you are not obligated. If you don't like the sales pressure, you can simply look online for how-to videos.
Another way you can reinvent your look is by changes to your wardrobe. They can be subtle, such as a new handbag. Changing the color and look of your handbag is also a very sensible change to make, as it is an item that generally wears out quickly. An updated handbag can pull together a whole outfit. It's noticeable enough, but a fairly safe change.
You can make a more obvious change - perhaps from neutral colors to brighter shades. A lot of people also choose this option to go along with the seasons. However, you don't have to break the bank trying to stay current with the color palette. Simple accessories like colorful scarves, bold necklaces, belts, or shoes can make an outfit pop and revitalize your energy.
Perhaps the most noticeable way to reinvent yourself is by changing your hair. This can be achieved with a new hairstyle, different hair color, or a combination of both. If you have longer hair, you can try a shorter hairstyle. If you have long bangs, you can try a new look with shorter bangs.
As far as hair color goes, you don't have to be drastic. Adding highlights has become an art form and stylists can do some amazing things just with color and make it look like you were born that way.
If you are not sure of how you would look with different hair, there are many online programs that let you upload a photo of yourself and with a few clicks of the mouse you can preview different styles. That way you can see upfront what you will look like.
