Here are some examples of why socialism already doesn't work.
No one advocates the word socialism, but what is it when we start institutionalizing companies, talk about implementing universal healthcare, college programs, housing programs, income restrictions and a host of other things that I could go on an on about? They no longer call it socialism because that word is no longer an acceptable word. They call it "progressive" but it means the same thing as socialism. And America is headed right towards it. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /

Some say that the parties defend the British healthcare system, maybe in Britain but not in the US. If the British healthcare system is a representation of what the progressive movement wants for America then we are headed for very dangerous waters. Recently the British denied a potentially life saving drug to women with a form of terminal cancer simply because they could afford the drug. Don't take my word for it; it is in the New York Times, hardly a newspaper that is for Capitalism. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/16/international/euro pe/16cancer.html?_r=1&ex=1141016400&en=68261e27426a025a&ei=5070&emc=eta1
If Canada's healthcare system is so superior to our system, then why do Canadians come to the US for treatment? It's because we have a system where they don't have to wait and potentially die in order to get treatment. http://www.researchednutritionals.com/information.cf m?ID=150
Capitalism is not the problem, government is the problem. Let's take the housing crisis for example. Progressives say it was the banks that caused the problem but forget to mention that it was Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac that this crisis started with and that those organizations have heavy oversight by the congress. I believe Barney Frank and Chris Dodd were supposed to be watching over these two institutions but failed to recognize the coming disaster. http://www.usnews.com/blogs/sam-dealey/2008/9/10/bar ney-franks-fannie-and-freddie-muddle.html
It is correct to say that unrestrained Capitalism can go out of control because of greed. The debate is how to deal with companies who are just out for a buck and don't care how they get it. We used to boycott such companies and when enough people refused to do business with those people, they were forced to change their business practices or they would go out of business.
Having the President of the United States remove a CEO, whether he's good or bad, will change the dynamic of the relationship between business and government for the foreseeable future. The innovation that made this country what it is today will cease to exist because when the government controls incomes then there is no incentive for new ideas, individuality ends and we are nothing more than a number. When was the last time England invented something that changed the world?
Capitalism has brought us the telephone, the automobile, the airplane, the internet, most healthcare related inventions (X-Ray, MRI, etc..) and much more were all invented in the US because of Capitalism not socialism. We need to be reminded of who our forefathers were and why they created this great Nation.
I urge everyone to go to http://www.wimp.com/thegovernment to get more information and find out why democratic socialism is a dangerous path.
