Don't be afraid to ASK! Have a cute child with you (If not your own, then borrow one)! DRESS the part of a true fan! Know the player's name and compliment them on one of their great achievements! Ask the unknowns, but know their name! Look cute or stand by the cutest person there! Act politely!
All you have to do is....all you have to do is ASK! The only fear you have to fear is fear itself. This is your chance. You will find the players, managers, coaches, broadcasters and icons everywhere! Make sure to have your sharpie and whatever it is you want autographed. Other than Terell Owens, most of them don't carry sharpies.
Cute children are offered autographs first. Lots of the players have their own cute kids and are marshmallows when it comes to children. As Bob Brenley often says, "give it to a kid"! If you are without a cute kid, either borrow one or stand next to someone else's.
The players really do love the diehard fans! Player jerseys, caps, necklaces, earrings, face-painting, bald head painting, etc. You get the picture. Signs telling your team how much you care. It all goes a long way to being noticed and getting that autograph.
COMPLIMENT! Everyone, including high paid baseball players love to receive compliments. Try this one, "boy, that was a gutsy pitch you threw to get Albert Pujols out in that game last year to win the division". Make sure it is a true and heartfelt compliment.
Know the roster. It is great to get the autographs of the up and comings. Most of the announcers don't even know their names, so when they hear you ask for them, by name, they'll even jump out of the dugout to come over and give you an autograph. Interesting as to how many players who were nobodies in spring training, go on to become the all-stars and heroes. Would be nice to have been the first one on your block to have National League Rookie of the Year - Geovani Soto's autograph - BEFORE it was hard to come by!
We all want to believe we are way beyond looks, BUT it does help to get noticed. If you're not the cutest person in the autograph procession, then at least try to stand next to the cutest person there.
BE POLITE! Nothing worse than shoving and pushing. Please and thank you, also go a really long way. Remember people are people and we all would like nothing better than to be treated with kindness and respect. Baseball players are people, too.
