When I was young my Daddy's shoulders were the ones I'd turn to
I remember how they felt when I leaned against them
So strong and broad and comforting
They were my fortress and he was my champion.
Through the turmoil of my teen years
Through the lost loves, heartache and pain
It wasn't my Dad's shoulders that I would seek; it was my Mom's
Her shoulders were gentle, warm and inviting
They seemed to absorb the tears and pain.
Through her shoulders I found solace.
I said my vows and a new life began
When the stress of everyday life
Or the trials of raising kids would overwhelm me
It was my husband's shoulders that I would seek.
They are strong like my father's and warm and inviting like my mom's
Leaning up against them I feel the unity that we share;
A silent understanding that links us together.
And when the world seems chaotic, I find peace there.
It is not one but many shoulders to cry on that carried me through life.
Strong and broad, gentle and loving all were offered freely.
And each person that they were attached to a blessing.
Thank God for all the people who have given me a shoulder to cry on.

Here's my shoulder to cry on when in need
Tuck yourself safely underneath my wing
Lean on me and I'll try to understand

Privileged eyes neither compassionate nor aware
No one sees the devastation
A shoulder to cry on is what I will offer you...forever
You live far away, our paths no longer cross, however, you know that
I will give you a shoulder to cry on,
A shoulder that's firm to your touch,
A friend you can love and rely on,
When everything's
