The benefits of reflexology massage therapy

Ask nearly anyone about the ancient Egyptians, and he or she will give them credit for the brilliant engineering that led to the building of the pyramids. But they also left us another brilliant idea: reflexology, a powerful form of bodywork. First documented around 2500 B.C., the practice of reflexology is based on applying pressure to specific and well-mapped parts of the body. This is believed to unblock trapped energy so the body can more efficiently heal itself. And now, despite the attempts of modern Western medicine to dismiss reflexology as mere quackery, people around the world enjoy the benefits of reflexology massage therapy. It's deceptively simple, wonderfully relaxing, and, good news for the body-conscious - you need only remove your shoes and socks.

While reflexology massage is normally performed on the feet, it can also be done on the face, hands, or even your ears. According to the theory of reflexology, each of these areas contain a powerful map of pressure points that represent a microcosm of what is going on in the rest of your body. This is why so many other types of bodywork around the world, including shiatsu and acupuncture, also use these points to release blocked energy and help you heal.

2. Reflexology can improve your circulation.

Removing the energy blocks allows blood and other body fluids to circulate freely. This brings maximum nutrients and oxygen to all systems of your body, which promotes healing and better overall health.

3. Reflexology can strengthen your immune system.

Studies have shown that reducing stress and inducing an overall feeling of wellness can soothe your nerves. Anything that promotes relaxation lets your immune system function more efficiently. This could help your body fight off illnesses, reduce your overall level of inflammation and possibly prevent or delay the
