If I build it they will come! This is the theory of many who set up a blog. The secret that many overlook is how to generate traffic to their blog. Building and maintaining a blog is hard work! It takes time and dedication. While generating traffic to your blog might not be as simple as you might think it is, it can certainly be done.

Provide Relevant Content

First of all, your blog has to have relevant content. Now, this seems like it is basically a given. Too many people think that just adding a new blog post every day will provide them with traffic. This is simply not the case. If you are simply placing a post just to post, then you are probably not providing relevant content. You can generate traffic to your blog by keeping your content relevant.

Stay on Topic

If you are writing a blog about Affiliate Marketing techniques, stick with the subject! Do not suddenly veer off and start talking about other topics because you cannot think of anything else to write about! Do make sure that if you are trying to generate traffic to your blog that your topic is always addressed in each blog post.

Find Pertinent Links

It is very tempting to set up a blog and put a lot of links that will allow you to make additional money. However, if you start including links just for the purpose of generate traffic to the same website that offers the same stale information, your links will soon become less helpful to you. You can generate traffic to your blog by becoming an expert who provides links to other websites, blogs and articles that are helpful to your readers.

Be an Active Participant

In addition to posting to your blog on a regular basis, you should become an active participant in social book-marking communities. While you may find an immediate increase in traffic by submitting a link to places like Reddit if you are not participating soon the community will start ignoring your posts. They will decide you are merely posting your own links for ranking purposes and not actively promoting the work of others.

Manage Your Blogs

Your blog needs care and feeding. This is especially difficult if like so many others, you have multiple blogs and other Affiliate Marketing that you are participating in. Having a central_management_tool so that you can determine when you last updated your blogs, your Helium articles, your HubPages and your Squidoo Lenses can help you be more effective. You want to have all of your traffic generators working for you and letting any of them get stale or outdated will result in generating less traffic.

A blog is a great tool for making additional money on-line from your writing. However, it is merely one component of being a successful marketer. Do not assume if you build a blog that people will flock to it in droves. Take advantage of the tools that are available to you to generate traffic to your blog.
