First, I would like to make a change from "the future of mankind" to "the future of humankind", as I am a woman; having said that, it is my understanding that the word humankind consists of all people, the human race as a whole. (Have you ever heard anything so ridiculous in your life? When has humankind ever acted as a whole?)
Second, MY future is different from President Obama's future. It's different from Charlie Manson's future and it's different from Sally's. It would be impossible for me to answer this question as a whole. It would be equally impossible for me to answer this question on an individual basis. Therefore, my best attempt to reply to this question is to base my opinion on groups of "humanity". I'll give them names...
The Government Group:
Their future looks the brightest of the three. This group consists mostly of officials, such as congressional representatives and world leaders. They hold all the secrets and are able to plan for a bright future. They can (did) dig deep underground facilities for instance, and can (will) survive, quite comfortably I might add, for years. They have spots reserved for all their family members and close friends. If/when disaster strikes, they will all probably already be safe in their havens when it arrives, leaving the following two groups to fend for themselves.
The Greedy Group:
Their future looks bright and bleak to boot. This group consists mostly of wealthy and prominent folk. Their greed over the years has cushioned their futures with imported pillows. However, their fortunes will have brought with them a false sense of security, as they are all targets. For, each of them will have bull's-eyes on their backs. Their tall fences and high profiles won't be able to stop the next group I'm about to mention. This group will become sitting ducks for them.
The Forgotten Group:
Their future looks the bleakest of the three. They don't know any secrets and they don't have any money. They're mainly the homeless and the psychologically ill. However (by the looks of things), the middle-class can also be found amidst this group. They are the ones that have pretty much lost everything they ever worked for to get. Their poverty will buy them desperation and their desperation will go hunting. Eventually any left over survivors from the Greedy Group and any from the Forgotten Group will (inevitably) join up with the Government Group and "we'll" start all over again.
The only thing the future has in store for ALL of humankind is; guaranteed transformation.
