Poetry: Out West

by Rosana Modugno

Created on: April 12, 2009

The sand and the sun

are reminders of some

Of the real men this country

Was based on

It is just but a page

In a book, on a shelf

of a library we never go to

We make fun of their hats

And the way that they walked

Yet these men would have taught

Us all plenty

Of American men, real American men

And the women that stood

There beside them

No masses to appease

No channels to ignore

These men knew of honor and heart

And blazing guns firing

And wild horses running

Each of them played a real part

For America strong,

For America true

Don't forget that the cowboys

Have raised you

And they taught you to bleed

For the red, white and blue

And out west was the place

That we ran to

For the history they made

Cannot ever be changed

And the way of the west is our founder

Wish it were that way now

And these men they call men

Need to bow to the cowboys of thunder
