Dilworth is one of Charlotte's original suburbs and remains one of the hottest neighborhoods in the city. Dilworth offers a balance of neighborhood friendliness and eclectic urban living along with beautiful homes, tree-lined streets and close proximity to uptown Charlotte.
The neighborhood was developed in the 1890s to house the growing workforce servicing Charlotte's industrial industry, and it was later marketed to middle- and upper-class residents. Dilworth is built on a grid pattern around East Boulevard, and it is filled with stately Southern homes, charming bungalows and modern condominiums. The neighborhood has undergone decades of renovations, and it is one of the best places to live in Charlotte.
Here's why:
The homes: Dilworth is simply a beautiful neighborhood. Expansive renovations have resulted in showcase homes that were once run-down. Growing families who did not want to leave the neighborhood have added second stories, porches and extra rooms to bungalows, creating a new generation of impressive houses.
Dilworth has been the home to Charlotte business leaders, political leaders and even a movie star, Randolph Scott. The largest houses in this neighborhood reflect the impressive architecture and design that only Charlotte's most wealthy residents could afford.
It is not cheap to live in Dilworth. Small condominiums can be bought for less than $200,000, but a 1,000 square foot home could cost more than $300,000. Condos and houses in Dilworth can be priced in the multi-millions.
The median home price in Dilworth is about $392,000, but those willing to make an investment in the neighborhood will not only buy a beautiful house, but will enjoy living a family friendly neighborhood with a unique character that suburbs often lack. Houses in Dilworth tend to hold their value well.
The location: Dilworth was one of the first neighborhoods in Charlotte to be connected the the city center via a trolley car system. As Charlotte continues to sprawl into outlying rural areas, living within a 10-minute drive of uptown Charlotte is a luxury.
The parks: Dilworth is home to two of Charlotte's most popular parks, Latta Park and Freedom Park. Many homes in Dilworth are within walking distance of the parks.
Latta Park was developed in the early 1900s, and it now houses sports fields, playground equipment, picnic areas and spray fields.
Freedom Park has been called the Central Park of Charlotte, known for its duck pond and well-kept landscaping. The park is popular with joggers,
