I have another perspective on this issue of music file-sharing from an artist's perspective. I am a writer. I write songs, poetry, stories, articles and books. So from my perspective, music file-sharing is both good and bad. For an up and coming band or artist that is simply trying to get a name and is at peace with not making much income, music file sharing can be a blessing. Word of mouth has, for many years, been the best way to advertise, ie: Napolean Dynamite. So music file sharing can be very helpful for those up and coming artists. However, when this artist has established himself, he will likely want to have control over the distribution of his work.
As a different kind of artist, I am working hard to establish credibility. So public sites like this one can be a nice beginning, a jumping off point if you will. But after establishing myself, I will want to keep control over my work; its production, reproduction and distribution, in order to maintain my work's integrity. So in the end, there really are two sides to this issue.
