Poetry: On birth

by Kay Cchui

It was six months into her pregnancy

Our daughter landed in an emergency

Admitted into Pantai Hospital, the doctor tried to keep the baby in

For four days, danger lurked within

The doctor said to do an ultra sound scan

Could only be done if the contractions end

Meanwhile our daughter was in pain

And her white blood cells gained

Something was dreadfully wrong somewhere

Her doctor did not know where

I sensed the danger!

I had to ask God for the answer!

I prayed and prayed

" O Lord this cannot delay

Mother and child are in danger!

Do we operate or let her wait longer?"

Our daughter's husband spoke with the doctor

He decided his wife to be operated

The doctor suggested she be transferred

To the University Hospital he referred

Within an hour our daughter was transferred

With the professor she conferred

Thank God! The whole medical team was in

Immediately she was examined

Alas! They found;

The placenta had started to decay

And barely covering the baby's head

The remainder of the amniotic fluid

As the water bag had leaked

Immediately Caesarean- section was arranged

When told, our daughter was shockingly amazed

Mother and baby were in danger!

Professor said they cannot wait a moment longer

The operation was a success

Mother and son were saved!

Praise the Lord for the right decision

And the medical team available for immediate action

Baby weighed only 880 gram

His length's only one foot then

He gave a cry; twas a miracle

The Lord made that possible!

Praise the Lord baby is alive!

Without God's grace, he could have died

Praise the Lord our daughter is saved

From the danger so grave!
