What is life?

by Jenny Turpin

Created on: April 11, 2009

I think that everyone at one time or another questions the meaning of life. What is it? Why are we here? Do I have a meaning in this great big world and am I ever going to find it? Sometimes we ask these questions to ourselves by day and sometimes they hit us like a ton of bricks all at once. There are no easy answers. Life can mean a million things and it can depend on a person's perception as to how it is viewed.

Life can be a great journey in which we travel roads with ease or choose paths that are tough. Sometimes we have to change our destinations so that life is what we need it to be. We often welcome travelers to our side only to have to bid them farewell later on. It is important to appreciate their company while they are there because these travelers are on their own journey, and through one another you enrich your trip.

One life can be a great influence for the future. Maybe you know your purpose or maybe your purpose is for a greater cause. It could be something that your children do that gives your life meaning. It can be something their children do. Either way life is a precious thing and there is no life with out a reason.

The meaning of life can't be written in a sentence. It certainly can not be weighed by just one person. The meaning of life is whatever it is to you and it's reason can only be found by the one in which it was gifted. No one can tell you what your life means. Meaning rests in what you have done and what your eyes have seen.

Life is beautiful. There is so much to experience that it seems almost impossible to enjoy it all. There is so much to touch, to taste, to feel. The good and the painful. It's there for the taking. Without the pain that life sometimes dishes out, we may not know how good the rest of it can be. So mind you, the pain is part of the lesson. It makes the soul stronger and the mind more open. No good without bad. No happiness without sadness. There is a balance with life.

Life is a choice. It is a series of paths that lead us home. Your life is what it is because of your path. Your fate is yours to create and the meaning is yours to understand. Right path. Wrong path. Who's to say? The only thing for sure is that it is yours. You control your destiny. The meaning of life rests within you and me. No one else can live it for us.

We are travelers within this journey called "Life". Our paths may cross, and if they do, I wish you well on yours.
