Mass Media
Focusing on Corporate Media Manipulation into modern Western Society.
The image of beauty'; thin, tall, made-up, tanned. These are some of the first things that come to mind when the word beauty' is brought up. In reality, this is not beauty. Beauty is natural. Everyone is beautiful, but we ourselves have created our society to believe that beauty' is something else, an image, a lifestyle. Whether it's to have the latest MAC product, or to get that perfect tan, or to watch your diet so you can lose those extra 10 pounds. It's all something that has been manipulated into our thinking, mainly through media exposure like corporations using models to sell their products. Models that are tall, thin, attractive and have an unobtainable beauty. Corporations use this image of beauty against us to promote their animal tested products, in order for us to buy them, products which none of us really need at all.
We're being bought, and models lives are being sold out. Most modeling agencies only accept applicants that fit the image of beauty', so that it may be on the new Victoria Secrets Runway walk where the models will show off the company's skimpy products with almost no clothes on what so ever. Or be partially naked on a body cream advertisement. Models are seen in the eyes of the public as sex symbols, because the large corporations have noticed that sex does in-fact sell in today's modern western society. Some people even go to the extreme where they look at models as almost a prostitute. Now that may be a little extreme but consider it in the way that they view the topic. They see models as someone who sells his or herself; they sell their image, name, and their life, for what beauty? Remember beauty' is only something made up, which major corporations have discovered our society is obsessed with. In reality a model is nothing more than that, an advertisement. That perfect image saying Buy my product because I am beautiful with it, and you shall be too.' This is the "Perfect Image" placed out into our society through the media for people to be taken in. Infect "the average weight of a model is 23% lower than that of an average woman." (http://loveyourbody.nowfounda tion.org/factsheet_2.html) Talk about trying to get the image of beauty' shown off and rubbed into the public's face. The signs are everywhere, scattered along every clothing advertisement campaign, on billboards, on every station on the TV, even in ads in magazines, and popup windows
