I took the wrong bus when going back to my college, and I lost my sense of direction. Who did I call? I called my friend to pick me up. Sometimes, I can't even support my lunch. Who I asked the help from? I asked for my friend's help to pay for it first. I have to run an important errand at a place that I didn't even know. Who did I asked for help? I asked my friend to take me there. Those are the situations when I can't help myself and that is what friends are for.

The word friendship' carries an important and diverse meaning to almost everyone. From the article Friends, Good Friends and Such Good Friends' by Judith Viorst, I learned a lot of new things about friendship, that friendship is not just about having some company to do things together. Some of the types of friends that were mentioned in the article are even applicable to my own personal life. Viorst had obviously written about the right meaning of friends. After reading the article, I have to redefine friendship. The value of friendship is also depicted in the movie The Golden Compass'. In this 2007 box-office movie, the value of friendship is conveyed very clearly throughout the storyline. Once again, after watching this magnificent movie, my perspective on the terminology of friendship' changed. In her article, Viorst mentioned that the friendship she has experienced was at different degrees.

This goes the same to my life; as I have a lot of friends but the level of intensity of our friendship differs from one another. Friends are very important in my life. I spent more time at school, as I was studying in a boarding school for about five years. So, friends are all I have to survive in my secondary level of studies. The movie The Golden Compass' also asserted that the types of friends differ according to the situation. Some of the friends of Lyra Belacqua helped her because she was going against Mrs. Coulter. However, some other helped her because she was their true friends. Friends are all she has when she was in trouble. The situation of Lyra when she got into trouble is just the same with mine, as she was an orphan. When I was at the boarding school, my parents were not there to help me if I got into any trouble and I just have my friends. Without friends, I will become helpless. In the movie, Lyra was also helped by a group of Gyptians, who was very friendly towards her. Even though they had never met before, they became friends in no time because of the desperate situation.
