Poetry: Redecorating

by Betty Stone

Created on: April 11, 2009

I have spent the last nine years,

redecorating my life.

Out with the old,

and in with the new.

I threw out twenty-three years of memories.

Of drunken rages and screaming abuse.

I tossed the memory of you,

passed out drunk,

on the ground.

And the one where you threw dinner,

on the floor,

and told me to clean it up.

In the garbage,

with your angry face,

and slurred words.

I have no room for them anymore.

The eggshells I walked on,

are gone too.

Replaced by solid ground,

and a beautiful sky.

I redecorated my life.

And the best part is,

you aren't in it.
