Poetry: Handle with care

by Betty Stone

Created on: April 11, 2009

I gave you my heart to treasure,

But you broke it.

Trampled under your drunken feet.

You laughed at the pain you gave.

A great joke it was,

to a drunk like you.

You threw it all away

for a can and some pills.

Smoking crack made you happier,

than I ever did.

How pathetic you are.

A drunken, stoned liar and abuser.

Thinking these vices more important,

than my heart.

Wasting your life,

doing nothing worthwhile.

A long time ago,

I gave you my heart.

I begged you to handle with care,

the love I freely gave.

I paid dearly,

for that gift I gave.

My naive heart,

battered and broken,

crushed and bloody,

beneath your drunken feet.
