How to copy vinyl records onto CDs

A vinyl record can be copied onto a CD using a couple methods that require connecting various equipment to a computer and recording the audio. This includes using a stereo receiver or amplifier, an audio recording program and a CD burning program. Copying vinyl record to a CD is a slow and time consuming process but the end result is a CD that can be played in any CD player.

The first step that needs to be done in order to copy a vinyl record to a CD is to connect the proper equipment to the computer. This involves connecting a turntable into a stereo receiver or amplifier. A turntable itself does not have any gain or volume control and needs a receiver in order to near the audio. The stereo receiver or amplifier then needs to be connected to a sound card or the on-board audio on the computer. The volume level may need to be adjusted on the receiver as well as the computer to obtain the optimum sound. Once all of the connections have been made to the computer the audio can then be recorded.

Copying a vinyl record onto a CD can be accomplished by recording each song from the vinyl record and converting it to an MP3 digital audio file. An MP3 file can then be burned to an audio CD that can be played on any standard CD player. An audio recording program needs to be installed on a computer in order to record the audio from the vinyl record. One of the best audio programs to use is called Audacity. This program is used to record the raw audio from the line in on the sound card or on-board audio on the computer. Once the audio has been recorded with Audacity it can then be saved as an MP3 digital music file.

The last step to copying a vinyl record to a CD is to burn all of the MP3 files that were created using an audio recording program to an audio CD. There are many programs available that can burn an MP3 to an audio CD. Some of which include Free Easy CD Burner and Nero. These programs take selected MP3 files expand them and then burn the data to an audio CD. Each of these programs has a graph that indicates that total amount of data that can be burned to a disk. A typical audio CD can hold up to eighty minutes of music so the number of tracks that can be burned can vary depending on the length of the song.

Anyone is capable of copying a vinyl record to an audio CD and professional equipment is generally not needed. There are ways to clean up an audio file once it has been recorded on a computer but that is for more advanced users. Copying a vinyl record can be a slow and time consuming process but the the process is generally free if the equipment is readily available.
