While it can often be so easy to get caught up in the frenzy of busy workdays, running errands, and worrying about the economy and your wallet, it isn't healthy to maintain a constant level of stress. If you are feeling like your life is a broken seesaw, then it may be time to get yourself in balance. Refocusing your life and priorities can be a huge undertaking if you are looking for big change really quickly. However, there are ways you can get back into balance with just a few small changes to your daily habits.
Start the day with a prayer or meditation. Saying a prayer or stating an affirmation helps ease you into the day ahead. Waking up instantly ready to take the wheel and steer will increase the chances of you staying mindful of keeping yourself relaxed and calm throughout the day. Focus for a moment about how you want to appear in the world, how you want to be present, and how you want others to see you. Become this person as you go through the day.
Take up stretching or yoga to retrain your body to relax as well as your mind. While these sessions may last a little longer, the affect it has on your mind can carry you through each day as a more balanced mind. If yoga is not your thing, then allow yourself some time elsewhere to read a book, jog, or take a long bath. Another way to refocus is to take a moment to be thankful before meals. Because we eat three meals a day, and have a few snacks here and there, it is a great opportunity to remind yourself not to get caught up in the whirlwind of life.
Make an attempt to do something selfless every day. Even something as simple as riding to the store with a neighbor to help carry bags, sending an anonymous note to a co-worker, or staying five minutes extra at work to walk out with a friend. These selfless acts don't have to be large or expensive; simplicity is the key, and will help balance your mind by taking the focus off of you and placing on those around you.
End each day with a prayer or meditation. The more you become mindful of what you have been given each day, the better your outlook on life will become. If the end of each day is consumed by the negative events that took place, then you are destined to seek out those negatives during the day because you will come to expect them. The more you try to be thankful for the positive aspects, the more you will start to experience them in the moment.
