Poetry: Out West

Out west in cowboy country
a legend oft is told,
of a mighty wild stallion
whom no corral could hold.

Those who tried to rope and brand him
were in for quite a fight.
He'd rear up in skittish caution,
galloping away into the night.

Though many tried to gentle him,
not one would ere succeed,
he wandered the lonely desert
among the tumble weed.

Hot sun seared his body
as he roamed the barren land,
until a cool oasis appeared
in the dry and dusty sand.

Temptress to his cravings,
beckoning him to stay,
replenishing his spirit
keeping thirst at bay.

Convention did not own her,
she danced to her own tune,
and tamed the wild stallion
beneath the desert moon.
