Web content writing is legitimate writing. For those who do it well it can be a profitable occupation. A web writer needs many of the skills required for writing informative articles, writing magazine features, producing advertising or promotional copy writing, compiling business reports, ghostwriting and news reporting.
Having a natural talent for writing is a good basis for any legitimate writing job, but each form of writing requires a different approach. The most successful writers are those who are creative in their craft and are adaptable.
Even successful novelist fail to use correct grammar sometimes, and some of them are poor at spelling, but any minor errors are corrected during the proofreading and editing processes. All written content is subjected to these processes before going into print.
Most web writers are expected to do their own editing and proofreading. Text will often appear online exactly as it is submitted, so it is important that a web writer knows how to correct and eliminate any errors in their own work.
Many print writers and journalists would have great difficulty writing web content, if they lack knowledge and experience. Web content writing requires an understanding of formatting, and of how text will appear when viewed on a website. A good web writer will only use short paragraphs, and will break up text with subheadings, or to use bullet points that stand out on the screen. A web writer may be given guidelines to follow, and could be expected to format their own work correctly before submitting it.
Most sites require web content to be search engine optimized. A web writer is expected to include appropriate keywords in the text. In a short piece of writing it can be very difficult to keep repeating several set phrases, while creating content that is compelling and easy to read.
It is possible for any writer to acquire skills and knowledge necessary to produce effective web content, but these can only be achieved through constant practice, and with some guidance.
The main difference between someone who creates good web content and a respected author, is the name of the writer who constantly produces content for different websites will remain less known. Some of the text on those sites will be viewed by far more readers around the world, than would be possible for most printed books or magazine articles.
Writing content for websites is a legitimate way to earn money. Many web writers get paid for their services, and web content writing is no different from any of the other ways for a writer to work for a living.
