to sound a certain way that they just weren't getting. He preceded to lay down on the couch with his acoustic, eyes closed, facing the ceiling... strumming and softly singing the lyrics to a song he wrote in his loneliest times. It was like he escaped into a different place right there, and was transmitting back the emotion in this song. To go from a screaming, guitar flinging, amp smashing stoner to a soft conveyance of emotion was unbelievable. The producer caught on and slowly Krist and Dave start in very lightly. Grohl had (and still does...) the tendency to be too loud and aggressive. Cobain demanded a mood be set for his song. Unlike other Nirvance songs, there is no loud, attention grabbing chorus. Cobain had the incredible knack of stringing together catchy tunes. Their music is described as rock songs that were catchy like pop. Something in the way extends that narrow minded perception of their songs and writing style.

Kurt may not have lived under the bridge in reality, but in his mind and his world, he was alone, being rained on and left in the cold. Anyone who has ever hurt can share in the feeling. Some might ilsten to the song and hear the basic words exactly as written with no reading between the lines, or even bothering to cotemplate what drove this man to make the music he did. If there is anyone who doubts the ability of Kurt Cobain and his creditability, take a listen to Something in the Way and check out Heavier Than Heaven.

Oh, last thing-

Smells Like Teen Spirit is not the only Nirvana track. Forget you ever heard it and start again.
