Open daily (with the exception of Christmas and Thanksgiving) from 10am to 5pm, Deering Estate is 444 acres of wonderful natural sites, several historic homes turned museums, and hours of fun. Visitors can enjoy a number of outdoor activities including butterfly hikes, canoe rides, and guided nature tours. Adult tickets are $10 and tickets for children from the ages of 4 through 14 are $5. Admission includes tours of the historic Stone House and Richmond Cottage. The natural areas tours are held daily at 12:30pm from October through May. In addition, Deering Estate's EcoAdventure tours (guided canoe trips to the offshore island of Chicken Key) are also available for an additional fee.

The Miami Museum of Science and Planetarium are located in the Coconut Grove area and is only a couple of miles form the Barnacle. Both the Museum of Science and its adjacent planetarium often feature wonderful exhibits that offer hands-on learning for children of all ages (and adults, too)! From dinosaurs to gravity, visitors will learn while they play. The museum is open daily from 10am to 6pm and general admission tickets are priced at $18. Seniors and students get in for $16, and children aged 3-12 are $13. Kids under the age of three are admitted for free. Ticket prices include admittance to all museum galleries, available planetarium shows, and the wildlife center. Visa, MasterCard and American Express are all accepted.

Without a doubt, the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is the BEST museum in Miami. Owned by Miami-Dade County, Vizcaya is registered as a National Historic Landmark. The house was built in 1916 by agricultural industrialist James Deering and the property features the main house, ten acres of formal gardens, a historic village, and a beautiful hardwood hammock. Here, you can catch gorgeous views of the suns setting on the bay, and spend hours getting lost in the little nooks of the ten acre gardens. The museum and its gardens are open to the public every day of the year (with the exception of Christmas day) from 9:30am to 4:30pm, although there are some night tours available. Also, check the website prior to your visit for any upcoming special events and exhibitions. Adult tickets are $15, children ages 6-12 are $6, and kids under 6 are admitted free of charge. Students with IDs and Seniors 62 and up are admitted for $10.

Aside from these wonderful attractions, Miami offers its visitors many more historical sites and natural reserves.
