Why do people cheat? Everyone who has been on the other side of this heartbreaking act has asked themselves this very same question over and over again. Over the years people have tried so hard to get in the heads of people who commit infidelity to help answer these questions. Oddly many people who cheat have different answers for this question. Some of the answers are just bogus. What is the truth? Why do people commit infidelity? These are the same people who promise to never hurt the people they have committed themselves to in such a way. It is not only the act of cheating that is so hurtful but it is also the violation of trust that comes with this act.

90% percent of people who have cheated on their significant said it wasn't just about sex. According to them it was about not feeling appreciated. They felt an emotional disconnection in their relationship. Most of these people claimed to feel insecure and a need to feel important. They claim the other man or woman would make them feel better about themselves and different. This other person knew all the right things to say to build them up and make them feel valued. It also seems that the stresses of day to day life also got in the way of their relationships and made many of these couples drift further apart making infidelity tempting.

Other reasons why people cheat are:

Boredom! This is where people turn to other people to bring excitement back where their relationship is lacking.

Confusion! This makes it easy for people to make mistakes if there is confusion and mishap going on in their lives.

People allow their significant other to cheat! Forgiving a cheater makes the cheater feel as though they got away with it and then it becomes a cycle in the relationship.

Dependence! This means people are not strong enough to end a relationship to start a new one and this results in cheating.

Nurturing! If people are being mistreated by their significant other is becomes easy to fall in the arms of someone who treats them better.

Revenge! Some people cheat after they have been cheated on to get even with their significant other.

The thrill! Some people just like the secrecy and doing something they are not supposed to like having a forbidden romance.

They don't consider it cheating! Some people consider relationships in the grey area before they are exclusive while some people might still consider seeing other people cheating.

Curiosity! Some people are just curious to know what it is like to be with someone else so they cheat.

A moment of weakness! Maybe something traumatic happened in someone's life like a death and it is easy for them to become pray to someone else's advances.

Some people are going to cheat no matter what! Some people can never be with just one person!

Whatever the case cheating is wrong under any circumstances and should not be tolerated. Cheating can have devastating consequences and is a turning point in any relationship. Trust is a very delicate ingredient in a relationship and once broken it is very hard to build again. Why cheat? This is something you should ask yourself if you find yourself in the position of a cheater. Until then, here is a list of reasons I have put together of research I have done on why people cheat.
