For those of you that are complaining and making a big deal about this game, stop it right now. "You must be racist" I hear you say but no, I'm completely against it. This is nothing more than a video game, something designed to give people some enjoyment.
Chris Redfield, the main character in this game is one of the reasons people think it to be racist. You are a white man, mowing down Africans and instantly people go berserk. Now first of all, they are dead... zombies, it is not like you are killing them for the hell of it, you kill them in self defense and to prevent the end of the world. All of the people trying to get this game banned say this is an invalid excuse. It is relevant because it's the truth, not just some fanboy argument. Calm down.
Another reason people want it banned is because you steal native treasures to sell for weapons. What will the zombies care anyway, the whole country is zombie infested so I don't think they will miss a couple of idols or jewels. Once again, they are zombies.
It is quite funny because when this argument is brought up, not many people even mention Sheva. She is your female, African partner that is available to play as once you finish the game. No one ever says an African woman killing her own people is strange and if you did tell all the people against this game they would most likely say "they are zombies" or another invalid excuse that would contradict with something else they said.
Another character who you are with on a few occasions is Josh, a black marine from Delta Squad. Yet again people fail to mention that he also kills the natives in this game so the racist side of this argument collapses. A white man shooting Africans we can't have, but African males and females shooting each other is completely fine. Go figure.
So many games are out these days that involve killing other races. All the war games out now, where you fight the Japanese or Grand Theft Auto IV where you really can mow down anyone you want, anytime for no particular reason. Every now and then people just want something to complain about and this time they chose Resident Evil 5.
In the end, this game isn't racist. It is a game and nothing more. It is not trying to say "lets all be racist" it is providing survival horror entertainment that is completely fictional. FICTIONAL being the main word there. Let me put a question to you. If what happened in Resident Evil 5, were to happen in real life or something of that nature and marines had to make their way through a zombie infested African nation, to stop the world from ending, would you say, no that's racist?
This is my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own, as for those of you still up in arms about this whole thing.
Chill. Life's too short.
