Being the oldest of two children and the only girl, my brother and I are very close. It was always that way as we would fight like cats and dogs. It took a terrible accident to make me realize just how much my little brother meant to me. We are only four years apart and of course there are some differences such as music likes and dislikes,colors,favorite food and some opinions on our world views. To be expected as we are two different people.

I never had a sister but can tell you by having close girlfriends I would take a stinking brother anyday! My brother and I are like I said, very close. We tell each other everything and often keep secrets between us. I have kept him out of so much trouble it is not even funny as he has done the same for me. We have a special bond which bloomed the dreadful day he was hit by a truck. I thought I would loose him that day. When he was home and alive I vowed that I would never again pass a harsh word from my lips to him. My brother is my best friend.

From going to school to playing on the weekends growing up my brother and I were never far behind each other. We did everything together. I used to even play cars and dig in dirt with him. When we were on the school bus I was kind like a mother hen, anyone who bothered him, watch out!

As we got older and I became a teenager I would have girlfriends over and even then I would allow my little brother to participate in our little prank phone calls to boys and the giggling. He did not care for that too much but wanting to be close to me he endured it with a smile.

Thinking about our childhood together makes me grin. Now we are all grown up and still just as close. He will soon be off to Iraq and tears fall from my face as I write this knowing he will be gone for a year. Not having the luxury of calling him when ever I please is a hard habit to break as we call each other at least once a day. He gets married this weekend and oh boy is that is a heart breaker. I love my brother and I cannot imagine it any other way.

As far as my brother getting married his fiance is very close to her sister. Like me, she is the oldest of two and only has the sister. They are the same as my brother and me. They are so close and are attached to the hip I think sometimes. That is just okay. In my opinion I think it can be both ways as far as same sex siblings and opposite sex siblings. In my experience at least.
