Why people lie

Everyone lies. What triggers a lie, varies. Sometimes we lie to be nice. Is there really such thing as a good lie? Say someone asks how their hair looks, are we suppose to say bad and hurt their feelings? I believe in honesty, but I believe in decency, too. The big lies and secrets are destructive. I've maintain that it's easier to follow a path of lies, than to follow a path of honesty. Sometimes honesty hurts us, and others around us. Sometimes it's scary to not only be honest with our friends and family, but ourselves. Have you ever truly examine yourself, and be honest, and open some things up that maybe you didn't want to face? Well, lying to ourselves is a way to hide from things as well.

Insecurity is a big reason why people lie. We all have, or been insecure about things in our lives. I don't care who you are, or how great you feel you are. Everyone has a vulnerability side to them. People want to fit it and please others around them. They want to feel important, liked, and successful. That can come with lying to get these things. Sometimes people don't know how to behave, or act. Or they are scared to let someone see the real things about them, so they make them up. They lie about things, to feel a bit more sophisticated in others eyes. We've all probably have done it, at least once before. They lie to impress someone and feel good.

Selfishness is another way that can trigger lies. That you want certain things to go your way, so you lie to get what you want. Like say, you are a kid. You broke your moms favorite vase. Instead of admitting you did it, you blame it on your brother or sister, to avoid punishment. People simply lie to make things easier on themselves. They lie to get what they want, because they're scared and unsure.

Some people simply lie because they don't know who they are. They don't know what they really want and aren't sure of themselves. So sometimes it's easier to lie to others and yourself, to try to make sense out of things. The old saying, the truth will set you free. It's not possible to find true happiness, with everything based on lies. These lie eat away from you, and in the end, you truly don't feel any sense of satisfaction from them.

Ways to figure out lying, is ask yourself does everything they say, really add up? Do they contradict their stories? The best way to get people around you to be honest, is to open up and be honest to them. Show them being honest is what counts and will make them happier as a person.
