Created on: April 09, 2009   Last Updated: May 05, 2009

The Pets & Animals channel is a broad area on Helium that covers many creatures, great and small. From different breeds of animals to keeping your pet healthy, this channel covers it all. Many of the articles are written by professional veterinarians, breeders, and trainers but you will also find writers who have had many years of experience at owning and caring for their beloved pets.

Writing for the Pets & Animals channel can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. You can pass along helpful information that can teach others on different animal facts, their care, and their history. However, writing about some of these topics can be tricky since passing along misinformation can be life threatening to someone's pet. Before writing, you should become familiar with Helium's guidelines on what is not allowed within an article.

Plagiarism-Only original work can be submitted. Do not copy another's work and call it your own. When you must research a topic, take that information you have gained and write your own piece based on the knowledge you gained from your research. You should make reference to any research material at the end of your article.

Personal identifying information and self-promotion-To keep rating anonymous, names, emails, and any other personal identifying information should not be included in your article. Articles should not be used to self-promote yourself or your business. Also, writers cannot mention other articles or writers within their own article, this is unprofessional.

Article style-The use of all caps in an article is not allowed. In web lingo it is considered "yelling" not to mention it is difficult to read and unprofessional. All articles within the Pets & Animals channels must be at least 400 words (2400 characters). Inappropriate (foul) language is not allowed and can cause your article to be removed from the site.

Duplicates-Your article can only be submitted to one title within the entire site. Writers are not allowed to take one article and post it to multiple titles no matter the channel.

Off-topic-Writers should stay on topic to the title presented. Unless a title is a "debate", writers should not debate a title in their article even if they don't agree with the meaning of the title. For example, if a title states "Best dog in the world is the poodle", you cannot submit a piece that argues the poodle is not the best dog in the world and give your personal opinions as to why you feel this way. Off-topic articles are removed.
