The modern office of the 21st Century has changed dramatically over the last 20-30 years. With the advancements in computer technology, employees are now working in a stress filled environment trying to cope with the instant demand for answers from their employers and meeting almost impossible deadlines. This "I want it now" attitude is putting the workplace under tremendous pressure.
The layout and design of the office floor is also adding to the workers vulnerability, gone is the privacy of a separate office room, to be replaced by the cubicle. The feeling of the boss and other co-workers constantly watching over your shoulder is for some too much to handle.
Anger at work is becoming a serious problem for many companies and when you add into the equation the long hours spent commuting, fears over job security, personal financial worries and the possibility of domestic troubles, you can start to understand why many an employee feels at breaking point.
Once someone understands where their anger is coming from, you can start to look at ways to avoid trouble from the onset. Forwarding the boss a vicious email or rude resignation letter will not help your future employment elsewhere.
First it always helps to understand that feeling angry is perfectly normal, everybody all across the globe at some point in their day gets angry. Long lines at the bank, traffic, their children or even the dog.
When you feel your pulse quicken it's time to keep cool and relax a little, take a minute away from your desk, go outside and inhale a few breathes of fresh air.
Walking back to your workspace look around and ask yourself if you are happy to work there. Just knowing that you are free to walk away if you want to, will lower your stress level, no one has to feel trapped in their job.
Body language, watch your co-workers are they being a little too aggressive, pointing fingers in an accusing manner and your own actions, uncross your arms be more open to colleagues
If you have a bad morning, resist the temptation to drink any alcohol at lunch time. This will lower your resistance to speaking out and if you have any issues to raise in the office, you must ensure you have a clear head to deal with it.
At the first signs of any conflict at work the very best course of action you can take is to speak to a higher authority. By referring the matter on will relieve your anger stress level and lower your temper. Anger must be held under control for your health's sake and the safety of others.
