Attempting to define God

I was curious to know the dictionary's description of God before attempting mine, so I went straight to dictionary.com. There I found the following description. I translated their meanings after each one, just to sum it up for myself.

God (noun)

1. The one Supreme Being, the creator and ruler of the universe. (Only one God.)

2. The Supreme Being considered with reference to a particular attribute. (Many gods.)

3. One of several deities, especially male deities, presiding over some portion of worldly affairs. (Many gods; many male gods.)

4. A supreme being according to some particular conception: the god of mercy. (Only one God.)

5. Christian Science; the Supreme Being, understood as Life, Truth, Love, Mind, Soul, Spirit and Principle. (Only one God.)

6. An image of a deity; an idol. (False god.)

7. Any deified person or object. (The pope; who is NOT GOD.)

8. Gods, Theater. a. the upper balcony in a theater. b. the spectators in this part of the balcony. (People, who just think they're gods.)

What did I learn? I learned that the dictionary's definition of God was all over the map. Maybe God is a statue or (according to definition #3) maybe HE is sitting in some balcony right now, next to a person who thinks they're God too. I was looking for a description and what I got was viewpoint. Needless to say, the dictionary's description left me confused. So I'm going to leave these definitions to themselves and proceed below with own viewpoint.

God (noun)

1. There are many gods, by our standards. By God's standards, there is just one. To clarify, there is only one true God.

2. God rules over every other deity in the universe and beyond. Whatever power they have (over whatever it is they have it over) is granted ...by God.

3. Though often referred to as a male deity, God has no form. (I believe I'll reference definition #5 from above.) God is Life, Truth, Love, Mind, Soul, Spirit and Principle.

Definitions are defined with words and words cannot describe God, but hey, I took a shot at it. At least my attempts to define God weren't 120 degrees one-way and back 90 degrees the other. Don't ever look up the definition of God in the dictionary if you want a definition of God. Look to your heart. Your feelings are the closest description of God you're going to get. Pay attention to them, and you might walk away with a clearer picture. Certainly clearer than the one you'll get from the dictionary.
