The suggestion that a college degree is necessary for success is absurd. In fact, a college degree may be a path to ineptitude and self destruction. Inductively we could sum up the many that have been successful without having a college degree. For comparison we could then list the many with college degrees that are believed to be successful. The additives beg to be compared. The larger category, we assume would point to the affirmation of the truth of this question. We would be far from any logical proof and in fact, we have proved nothing in answer to the question.
If we use the tool of extremes to analyze the question we may select a world without colleges and college degrees. In this world then, no one would be successful if we find the answer is affirmative. If not, it may be possible that based on how far one strays from the line of truth and how far one deviates from the natural laws some may find success and benefit even though they have no college degree. We, of course assume that the acquisition of knowledge through observation and inductive reasoning enables one to achieve success in their life and their pursuits for improvement. This is done by deducing the best path of action or of thought to achieve improvements for the self. Of course this depends on the logical adherence during the actions taken and the degree of success depends on the perspective of the observer giving measure to the truth of the answer.
Coming back to the real world we may look at the down side of a college education and a college degree. College degrees can denigrate the originality and creative ability of the collegian. Too many develop the habit of decorating the Christmas tree by affixing colored lights whereas others may create the tree and show nonconformance when designing the full regatta of the tree ornaments. The degreed participants would start with a framework such as you may purchase to make an artificial Christmas tree. This framework is the result of the many rules and methods taught as a necessity when trying to create the tree. Their expertise and success would be exhibited by the hanging of the lights and adornments. Meanwhile, the non degreed may busily delve into plant biology to create a very esthetic, photosynthesis practicing, cedar smelling Christmas tree. Thus there is a better chance of creativity and originality in the pursuit of creating a tree. Self reliance for these non degreed participants is obvious.
The same is true for the many who participate
