Best of 2008: Cellular phone

Samsung's answer to the iphone is the Omnia or i900. This is the best mobile phone that Samsung currently presents to the cellular phone market and is certainly the best phone launched in 2008. Certainly, this cellular phone provides as much functionality as anyone would wish for.

Samsung have managed to provide a one stop shop when it comes to the Omnia. This Samsung mobile phone provides the owner with enough scope to only need the one handheld instead of several separate units.

The Omnia or i900 has an integral gps unit, which means you can avoid having a separate route finder. This is additionally useful as it works as well when on foot as it does when driving. The only small downside is that Samsung hasn't worked with Tom Tom so if you want to use their gps navigation software, you need to add something like gpsgate to make it work properly. However other gps software works fine.

The Omnia is based upon Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 as an operating system, which means that not only do you get Windows Mobile Office applications such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint, but you can also easily syncronise your Samsung mobile phone with your PC using active synch. An additional bonus is that you can use your Outlook contacts on your i900 and these are far more easily updated on the PC using the keyboard. It also means you have a back up of your contacts on your PC. In additon all e mail functions work very well.

This Samsung mobile phone uses 3G which means any on line experience is a good one. Streaming video and web browsing is very easy. You have the option of using either the standard Windows internet browser or Opera which is another great browser and this is pre installed on the phone.

One really good function this mobile phone has is the rotating screen. Not only is the screen a good size but when you rotate the phone, the screen changes from portrait to landscape. This means the phone is really good for watching movies on, excellent for games and document reading. The sensitivity of switching the screen layout can be manually adjusted as well. The screen itself is a touch screen.

This Samsung mobile phone is also an mp3 player, an FM radio and has a really good 5 MP camera. The camera software is really good has face recognition and many other user chooseable settings. The camera also has a built in flash which can also be used as a flashlight. You can also use the camera as a camcorder and record in mp4.

To facilitate all these functions, the Omia or i900 has a huge internal memory. Purchase options have either 8mb or 16mb internal memory, and both can be upgraded by using a memory card too. Plenty of room for your music, pictures, videos and additional application software.

As you can see, this mobile phone does indeed mean you only need the one handheld to cover all your needs.
