Conch Republic

The end of the Rainbow...

Endless opportunities.

Key West sets itself on a crash course

With fantasy and reality.

How can we live this way?

Once a safe haven for

Pirates, smugglers and America's undesirables,

Bone Island still perspires danger.

America's last bastion for bridge burners,

Key West strikes the match for us

And what we choose to do

With the flame is left up

To us and the winos.

Hemingway conjured memories here

While making new ones

And setting them to paper.

From the bars on Duvall

To boats heading toward the Dry Tortugas,

His words still imprint our fascination

With the Marquesas.

Corcoran and McGuane...Tennessee Williams

And Robert Frost.

Two Trumans. Capote and Harry.

All smitten with sunsets at Mallory Square.

And we revel in the dancing life.

How can we live this way?
