The City of Detroit hosted the final four this past weekend. Downtown Detroit was transform into this remarkable tourist attraction. In fact, they transformed everything from the airport route for people as well as the main highways. They put fancy backdrops up to hide the decrepit buildings that need to be re-done. In many cases building are empty due the city foreclosure rate. They got the garbage off and streets clean only in the area of events for the final four. Now you may say this is a good thing after all the event certainly brought money into the city and helped businesses in the area. Well I disagree with that assumption yes it true that the game brought money into the city. However, with the state of this city it more of an insult to the citizens of this city to watch the city try and act unified when it is the most unified city in Michigan.
Now the city counsel and the mayor are in a bitter custody battle over Detroit Cobo Center. Add on this city does not have a real mayor we have one that was able to take the position due to misconduct of the last mayor. Due to fact that many in the city do not like that he did not take more of a stand. However, it does not really matter which one is voted for in May because they will only have about four months to run before the primary in August then the general election in November. Now if you follow politics you know to hold all these election cost money a great deal of money at that. Therefore, the money they made from the final four is nowhere near enough to cover the elections.
The majority of the leader and people in Detroit do not get it. This city is going down at a vast speed. Detroit can never seem to regroup after it takes a big loss for anything. Yet the leaders and a lot of the citizen walk around as if the city is improving. Right now this city is in so much debt and this is not debt because of the economy alone it a debt because of the misuse of funds and paying off debts of leaders in the city. The former mayor cost
