An audio CD can copied and converted into MP3s using a variety of software that is available to download from the internet. Audio CDs can be copied and converted into MP3s using software such as iTunes, audiograbber as well as a program called dBpoweramp Music Converter. Once a CD has been copied and converted into an MP3s they can be transferred to a portable music player.

An audio CD can be copied and converted to an MP3 by using the iTunes software program. This program is available from Apple and is used with their iPod music player. However, it is capable of copying an converting an audio CD into MP3 files. In order for iTunes to convert a CD into MP3 the Import Setting in the program need to be changed. Depending on the version of iTunes that is used the option may be in a different place. Once the Import Setting has been found change the Import using selection to MP3 Encoder. When an audio CD is imported into iTunes all of the songs will now be in the MP3 format.

Another program that can be used to copy and convert an audio CD into MP3 files is audiograbber. This program can be found online which is provided free or charge to use. Once the program has been installed it is ready to use since there is virtually no setup needed. Simply insert an audio CD into the drive on the computer and open the program. The program will attempt to connect to a free database online to find the track and artist information for the audio CD. This eliminates the need to label each individual track. However, if there is no database information labeling can be done manually. If a track is not needed it can be deselected before grabbing the remaining audio tracks.

An additional software option that can be used to copy and convert an audio CD into MP3 files is dBpoweramp Music Converter. This program was once offered free to use but now is offered via a twenty-one day trail before a purchase is necessary to continue using it. This program is similar to other MP3 converter programs that are available. After installing the program use the Audio CD Input option to convert tracks from an audio CD. When a CD is inserted into the drive on the computer the program connects to an online database to retrieve track and artist data. Individual tracks can be unchecked if they do not need to be converted into MP3s.

When a CD has been copied and converted into MP3 files they can they be transferred to virtually any portable music player. MP3 files can also be stored on a portable storage device such as a flash drive as well as burned to a CD or DVD disk. There are many benefits to using MP3 files after they have been copied and converted from an audio CD.
