Finding your true love through the internet

Finding your true love online can be done, but the trick is not to expect it.

Internet dating sites are a fun way to meet new people. It opens up possibilities other than guys/gals in your local area. Your odds of finding that special someone are much better than just narrowly sticking to the few people who you encounter on a daily basis. Also, if you don't meet that special person right away, chatting online is a good learning experience.

I dated online in my late-teens and early twenties mostly because I was shy and didn't know how to talk to guys in-person. By chatting with guys via computer I learned to be more relaxed when talking to guys in person. As a result, I found it easy to make guy-friends in college and had a great time hanging out with them. Got along with them better than my girl-friends actually.

You can also choose to open up your online relationship to phone chats. While this brings a new and exciting aspect to your friendship or relationship, it is also very important to stay safe. Only give out your cell number and only to people who don't pressure you for it or give you a bad vibe. It is possible to get in real trouble here. Also, don't tell them where you live. Give it at least six months or more. If they're legit, they'll stick around.

During my dating time I had "phone flings" with quite a few guys. We'd talk for a few months, discuss meeting one day. Most of the time it didn't work out because they were all so danged far away. I can say I enjoyed learning about their lives and being considered a friend to them. With one in particular I had very strong feelings. We talked for about six months or more, but for whatever reason we didn't work out. It was upsetting at the time but now I understand why things ended that way.

Looking at my beautiful baby boy, I know he wouldn't be who he is without his father; a fellow I met online.

We met on a dating site for horse enthusiasts and chatted and phoned for about a year before meeting. When we really did meet there was immediate chemistry. We endured a long-distance relationship of 1100 miles while I finished college and finally moved out there to be with him.

Since then we're happily married in 2006, had our boy in 2007 and are expecting our second baby this winter! It is possible to find true love online, you just need to keep an open mind and not look too hard. That person may pop up when you least expect it. Good luck.
