The best web-site of 2008, for me at least, was Helium. For it has come on and progressed and now has good content, better contests, expanding market place and forum community.
Be it as a content provider, or alternatively seeking content, the site can provide a variety of informative articles and topics for users. Sports, current affairs, IT, hobbies and games, arts and travel to name a few are just a handful of the coverage provided. Few sites of 2008 can actually match this.
Additional features such as the web-page links, may be overdue but are now here. They came in 2008, along with the premier market place, and bonuses towards the year-end. Let us not forget, the two main promotions of 2008, the write-athon and summer promotion which sweetened the pot, culminating in those new features introduced in October.
So with all this, Helium has got better. The community too, with the channel stewards, has given Helium a lively and useful web-forum for matters not only relating to Helium, but likewise a little entertainment for forum users also.
Let us not forget that Helium has a growing market place for publishers and publication. Undoubtedly, this is becoming a great part of the site, for both publishers and those submitting articles. Helium continues to attract publishers to the site, and did this throughout 2008. It may well become the best web-site for publisher support.
What more can be said of Helium, is that it was in contention for the best writing site award towards the end of 2008. While I am not sure if Helium won, there is no doubt Helium proved itself to be one of the best sites for this.
There does not seem to be a better site in 2008. Google search engine is just that, a search engine, and should not be counted as a web-site. Wiki was one that might also be mentioned. The on-line encyclopedia continued to provide depth of content that few can match (not even Helium perhaps). While being a different type of site to Helium, the articles of Helium are more flexible and you will likely not find golf tips, game reviews etc on Wiki. Of course, the Wiki entry on Casino Royale might have content on the film, but not rate or review it as such.
So, overall, Helium proved to be the best site of 2008. Let us hope, that it will continue from where it left off in 2009 with more new additions for further enhancements.
