I say yes, refurbished electronics are worth the savings. We usually don't buy electronics because they look nice and you want to hang it outside or something. We buy electronics to use them and if you could get that same electronic for a cheaper price, then go for it. You will be saving money and recycling by paying less. Buying refurbished electronics makes everybody involved satisfied. The seller has got rid of an unwanted item. The buyer has bought something he needs at a much lower price. Environmentalists are happy because we are saving the environment.
Especially in these tough economic times, buying refurbished electronics ,and other refurbished goods,is the way to go. In a time where global warming is a big issue, refurbished goods are the way to go. Refurbished goods also have their bad side. Some times they don't work or are broken. That is why you make sure you buy from a trusted retailer or a big box store and not small thrift stores that do not have to worry about you exposing them to the whole country, because nobody knows what, and where the store is.
The meaning of the word refurbished is not used, but re-cleaned and repaired, so watch out for the difference between used and refurbished. Refurbished electronics are also a good business because you can sell your old electronics that you dont use anymore.Getting rid of big old TVs, laundry machines and refrigerators clears up space and gets you a good amount of quick bucks.Selling refurbished electronics is now very easy and affordable due to the emergence of new sites such as cragslist which allow you to sell and buy both used and new electronics from the comfort of your own home. You could even request that the buyer or seller comes and meets you.
As a necessary precaution, never buy any refurbished electronics that are very expensive that do not come with a warranty or guarantee because they could have a minor break and that would ruin the electronic and result in you losing money. Sometimes, refurbished items from sites like ebay, is are not tightly controlled, might not come even after you pay. I ahve also heard many accounts of receiving an empty box. That is why its best to buy from sites like amazon.com because it is monitored by the company employees and I have only heard a few complaints about amazon.
You could organize a group of locals who have refurbished goods to sell or buy and meet every week or so to sell and buy from people who you know and trust. This is very easy with new socializing tools such as myspace and facebook.com where you could meet people from your city. Such a group would greatly decrease the chances of receiving an empty box since everything is done person to person and not across the country or the world through shipping lines.
