Poetry: Being overwhelmed

by Jon Coe

  • Writing Level Star

Crawling, up these empty stairs
electric wires and grizzly bears
Darkness, fills, my window frames
doorways, boarded up, with blames

Telephones, ringing, off the hook
nightmares, do not, let me over look
As soon as I get up, these stairs, again
electric shock waves, stun, my brain

Immobilized, by life's Tazar Gun
without light, I cannot see, to run
Where I hide, to gather strength
is losing height and gaining length

This roller coaster, hurtles down
wild animals, preying, on my town
Heavy blossomed trees, bend to drink
hard ground, prevents, their roots to sink

Head spinning, upon this spinal cord
debt collectors, swoop down, to board
The family, that I once supported, proud
now, rubbing hands and forming crowd

The locks upon my doors, within
keep me out, from this world, of sin
When vultures come, to my front door
they will take, until I give, no more

    What Is This?

What is this that conquers me
    demanding I wear chains?
    Winners lose and losers win,
in a moment, all does change.
