So you spent a fortune on that puffy prom dress. You had probably hoped to be the belle of the ball but it didn't work out quite that way. Now you have a long beautiful pricey gown to remind you of a Prom that never was. You have, however, made the painful decision to get rid of it but in a responsible manner. Well the good news is that you can turn that prom dress into something else. Here are top ten uses for an unworn prom dress.
1. Return it. If you brought the prom dress from a store with a liberal return policy, the tags are still in place, and it is in its unworn condition, you can try to return it for a refund or exchange for something you can use. If for some reason you did not make the prom due to a recalcitrant date or other extenuating situations, then buy something that would provide comfort and joy a want more so than a need, say an Ipod?
2. Luscious pillows: Which girl doesn't like satin and lace and nothing says comfort like satin lace trimmed pillows. I bet, depending on the length of your dress, you may be able to wrangle from 2 to 4 pillows. You don't have to be an expert seamstress for all the sewing projects here. All you need is a good pattern, the ability to disassemble a prom dress carefully, and follow instructions.
3. A scarf or two. Many prom dresses are made from soft and/or silky material like organza, Georgette, chiffon or silk charmeuse. These make awesome scarves that never go out of fashion. Don't need more than one scarf of the same color? No problem. Make two or three for gifts to family and friends. There is little sewing involved and if you have a serger to finish the ends, it would be a cinch.
4. A mod bag. Yes, depending on what you paid for the prom dress, you are probably thinking that is one expensive scarf or bag. You will decide which of these 10 things you would rather use your prom dress form. But again, A silk Charmeuse or satin handbag designed and made by you is priceless. Patterns are plentiful and with a little added creativity, your prom dress will be around for years to come.
5. A gorgeous evening gown. Right now you are probably thinking that this is not going to happen anytime soon. However, You may want to take in a night at the opera, ballet, or a romantic evening out, and when you just feel the urge to dress up. Now, you will want to take into consideration the type of Prom dress you have. If it has way too much fabric and of the ballerina variety, you may probably be inclined to choose the pillows instead.
